The first edition of Minds Together Summer School took place on July 8-12, 2019.

There were 5 days full of dialogue and continuous interaction, in which the 9 law students deepened the legal situations in the smallest details, forming a clearer image about the litigation lawyer, due to the presentations, discussions and workshops.

We had hands-on workshops about procedural documents, evidence, pleadings and the power of the chosen word. Every workshop related to the special guest we had in the evening. There were with us: Ovidiu Vanghele – investigative journalist, who shared with us tips on how the documentation is done in a press investigation, Bazil Oglinda – Vice-president of the International Commercial Arbitration Court, who spoke about the recruiting process of law firms and what expectations they have from young lawyers, Alexandru I. Grama – air traffic controller, who explained how small details can make a big difference, and finally we rose to crescendo with chef Adi Hadean in his Attic Lab for stories that nurtured the mind, body and soul.

We are more than ready for the second edition, with more surprises coming up!

On 21-23 June 2019, Sergiu Vasilescu – head of New and Emerging Technologies, was a speaker at the Romania Blockchain Summit, an event organized under the high patronage of the Romanian Ministry of Communications and Information Society together with the representatives of the Blockchain industry and with the participation of the European Blockchain Observatory and Forum.

This was one of the most important conferences in the South-Eastern European region, dedicated to innovative technologies which brought together the public sector, political decision-makers, developers, researchers, global entrepreneurs, leaders and innovators.

In the context of an innovative Romanian start-up environment and a strong blockchain and crypto community, Sergiu outlined the importance of using the blockchain technology in business, addressing two major needs: record-keeping and transacting, based solely on blockchain’s core advantages: decentralization, cryptographic security, transparency and immutability. Also, Sergiu emphasized the fact that blockchain is not to be adopted in every business, as certain industries are inherently more suited to blockchain solutions than others, thus capturing the greatest value by cost reduction: financial services, government and healthcare.

On 12 April 2019, Mihai Furtună represented our team as a speaker at Aviation Day Romania, a conference organized by The International Air Transport Association (IATA), marking the Romanian presidency of the EU Council.

Mihai joined the panel about Consumer Protection and European passenger rights regulation (EC) no. 261/2004 and delivered information on the vital role of balance between protecting consumer rights and protecting sustainable air services.

Based on ECJ case law regarding the events covered by EU Passenger Rights Regulation such as denied boarding, flight cancellation, flight delay, compensation in case of technical defects, Mihai explained the Commission’s most impacting proposed revisions, concluding with the need of an appropriate regulatory framework along with transparency.

The other panels at the event were Air transport infrastructure in the region as a leverage for increased connectivity, Cyber security – impact and trends in aviation, Innovation and digitalization for the air transport industry, Environmental impact of aviation and initiatives to address it. The main topics focused on the priorities, challenges, and opportunities for air transport in the region.
