Aviation Day Romania

On 12 April 2019, Mihai Furtună represented our team as a speaker at Aviation Day Romania, a conference organized by The International Air Transport Association (IATA), marking the Romanian presidency of the EU Council.

Mihai joined the panel about Consumer Protection and European passenger rights regulation (EC) no. 261/2004 and delivered information on the vital role of balance between protecting consumer rights and protecting sustainable air services.

Based on ECJ case law regarding the events covered by EU Passenger Rights Regulation such as denied boarding, flight cancellation, flight delay, compensation in case of technical defects, Mihai explained the Commission’s most impacting proposed revisions, concluding with the need of an appropriate regulatory framework along with transparency.

The other panels at the event were Air transport infrastructure in the region as a leverage for increased connectivity, Cyber security – impact and trends in aviation, Innovation and digitalization for the air transport industry, Environmental impact of aviation and initiatives to address it. The main topics focused on the priorities, challenges, and opportunities for air transport in the region.
